When you visit a legendary foodie city like New Orleans, it's easy to get caught up in the highly publicized restaurants in the Quarter. But any seasoned foodie knows some of the best food can be found outside of touristy areas. Here are some of our favorite New Orleans spots outside of the French Quarter.

Spot #1: Parkway Bakery and Tavern -538 Hagan Ave, New Orleans, LA 70119

Parkway Bakery Tavern is known for being an OG Po Boy spot with over 100 years of history. Our first time trying Parkway Tavern was during Mardi Gras season so y'all already know we had to stand in a longgggg line. We got the Surf and Turf Po Boy with fried shrimp and roast beef and did not regret it at all. The fried shrimps were big and the roast beef was flavorful. Never knew we needed that combo in our life.

Spot #2: PeeWee Crabcakes On The Go-4500 Old Gentilly Rd, New Orleans, LA 70126

This is one of those times Instagram food came through. Don’t sleep on finding food in the hashtags y’all! We found PeeWee Crabcakes On The Go while searching for some new spots to try in the NOLA and they lived up to the hype. ⁣

We tried the Seafood potato with their famous crab cake, catfish, crawfish, shrimp, and out-of-this-world white sauce. We ain’t new to seafood potatoes, but we definitely never had one like this. The flavor from the sauce and crab cake alone is amazing so with everything else it’s really seafood heaven on a plate. ⁣

It's definitely a must-stop if you're looking for the type of food that's gonna make everybody jealous when they see it on their feed.

Spot #3: Heard Dat Kitchen- 2520 Felicity St, New Orleans, LA 70113

Sometimes you just want to pick up a fire styrofoam plate and keep going. We’re still drooling over this gourmet style plate from Heard Dat Kitchen. Chef Jeff is the mastermind behind this spot and its carefully crafted signature dishes. We tried the Mardi Gras Mambo when we visited and loved the fact that you could get such good food on the go.

Spot #4: Anita's Restaurant- 2122 Tulane Ave, New Orleans, LA 70112

Now Anita's is a breakfast spot that's worth the two-hour wait. If you're looking for a real breakfast spread, this is the place to go. Anita bought us back to them old-school breakfast days, back when you had to get dressed before you could come get breakfast.

Spot #5: Manchu Food Store: 1413 N Claiborne Ave, New Orleans, LA 70116

Don't let the location fool you hunny! They are serving quality fried chicken wings out of this purple and green building. Have you ever licked the bone of a chicken wing? That's what Manchu's chicken will have you doing. The chicken wings are seasoned all the way to the bone and are fried fresh. The first time we went we got an eight piece to split between four people and thought we were gonna keep pushing. We were wrong lol! The wings were so good we decided to drive back and get another order. On top of the amazing flavor these wings are cheap and served with shrimp fried rice.

Spot #6: Neyows-3332 Bienville St, New Orleans, LA 70119

Okay so Neyows isn't exclusively in New Orleans anymore, but if you ask anybody they'll tell you there's nothing like the original. Nine times out of ten your favorite celebrity probably has a picture hanging on the wall here. At Neyows you get good food and a good vibe thanks to the ambience and whoever is back there making the food. If you trying to eat like we did, go head and start with the Char-Grilled Oysters! These things are unmatched with just the right amount of Parmesan cheese on top. Our favorite meal is the Fried Fish with Carrot Soufflé and Mac & Cheese. Both of these sides stand out to us because they're made in a unique way. The Carrot Soufflé literally taste like sweet potatoes and the Mac & Cheese is made with spaghetti. And if you're in the mood for a lituation, get a Bow Wow to wash everything down. We've literally seen grown men stumbling after this drink so make sure you're ready.

Have you tried any of these spots in New Orleans? If not, let us know your favorite spot!
